Simon Bolivar and Latin American Revolutions

Simon Bolivar was a revolutionary in Latin America. Inspired by the American and French Revolutions, he began to fight for the independence of the Spanish colonies in Latin America. In 1810, he began to take control of Caracas in Venezuela. He began to gain power and popularity in South America as he attempted to free to Spanish Colonies. By 1819, he established the Republic of Colombia and declared himself president. He then began to expand his views to the rest of South America. In 1822, with the help of his subordinate General Antonio Jose de Sucre, he freed Ecuador from Spanish rule. In 1824, Bolivar freed the last Spanish stonghold in South America-Peru. The country of Bolivia was also formed in honor of Simon Bolivar.
